Q1: I'm trying to take a test but all I get is a blue screen and a red X. What am
I doing wrong?
You are doing nothing wrong. You just need to install the Java Runtime Environment plug-in. It's available
for free at www.java.com. Once you've installed Java, just restart your browser and re-enter the test
center.
Q2: How can I see my test results?
You will need to contact the administrator at the company or agency who asked you to test. They should
have the results of your test.
Q3: The test came up fine but when I reached a multiple-choice question, the image
blocked some of the possible answers and I could not answer the question correctly. What happened?
If you have your screen resolution set to 800 x 600 you will sometimes experience this overlap. For
optimum performance set your screen resolution to 1024 x 768. At that resolution you will be able to view
the image associated with the question and all the possible answers.
Q4: I received my invitation to test but when I clicked on "I Agree"
I got a message which says "Testing Session Completed." I haven't taken any tests yet. What do I do?
Contact the administrator at the company or agency who sent you the e-mail invitation. They will need to
re-select the evaluations they want you to take. Afterwards, you should be able to see the list of test titles
and begin the tests.
Q5: I'm trying to apply for a job and the company says they've sent me an e-mail
invitation to test. I haven't received it. Why?
The e-mail invitation to test contains a live, embedded link which logs you into the test center. Some ISPs
will block those e-mails at the door because of the active link. Some SPAM filters will block the e-mail if
the security is set to maximum. Check your e-mail security settings and check your SPAM or Junk mail
folder. If you don't see anything there, contact the administrator who sent you the invite. Ask them for your
Account ID, your User ID, and your Password. With those three pieces of information you can go to
www.prevalonline.com/login and begin your test session.
Q6: I was in the middle of a test when the system froze. It wouldn't load the image
and wouldn't let me skip or continue. I had to quit my browser. When I went back into the test center that test was
gone. I wasn't finished, what can I do?
If the system seems to freeze, or hang there is a connectivity issue and our servers lost contact with you.
This happens most often to users who are on a dial-up connection. Many of the tests are image-heavy and
as such we recommend at least a 56k dial up speed. DSL or other broadband connection is highly
recommended.
Call or e-mail the administrator at the company or agency who asked you to take the tests. They can re-set
that test for you and allow you to re-take it.
Q7: I was taking the tests at home and I got distracted when the phone rang. I returned
to my test but it said my time was expired and the test finished without me. Can I re-take that test?
The test sessions are timed sessions. Once you begin a test you need to finish it before you do anything
else. You cannot quit a test and re-enter the test later. You can contact the administrator at the company
or agency who sent you the test and ask them to re-set the test for you, just make sure you have
uninterrupted time to complete the test in one session.
Q8: I can't see the entire test. There seems to be part of the image cut off but there
is no scroll bar or anything. How can I fix this?
When you enter the live test in the Pre-valuate Online test center you should be able to see everything. If
you don't, you may be using a non-standard browser. A non-standard browser could be: an older version of
AOL, a customized browser from your ISP or Cable company. To avoid this problem, quit the test center.
(Make note of the test you were in, you'll need to ask the administrator to re-set it for you.) Find the
Program Files folder on your hard drive. Find the Internet Explorer folder. In that folder find the blue
"e" icon that has the file name iexplore.exe. This is the plain browser that ships with every
PC where Microsoft Windows is installed. Use that browser to test.
Q9: I have Java Installed but I still can't get to the test questions. HELP!
If you have Java installed and still can't get to the tests then you may be encountering a firewall issue.
Many firewalls will block Java. If you use a personal firewall at home, try deactivating it just for the test
session. If you are encountering this at work, you may need to talk to your IT department or do the tests
from home.
Q10: I tried to take your typing test but the document scrolls too slowly and it's
dragging down my speed. What can I do?
For really fast typists this can be a problem! Contact the administrator who asked you to test. They can
send you the typing document and re-set the test for you. Print this out and place it beside your computer.
Type from the hard-copy of the document and ignore the top part of the screen where it appears.
Q11: I took your tests for a particular agency, but I am applying at several places.
How can I take my test scores with me?
Your test results become the property of the agency or company who invited you to test. You will need to
contact them and request a hard copy of your test results and permission to provide them to other
companies. Each agency and company has a different policy regarding this issue. Presenting Solutions
cannot release your results to you.
Q12: I was told to log-in and register myself to take the tests. When I did I got an
error message, what did I do wrong?
Make sure you received the correct Account ID from the test administrator. When you create your Candidate
ID make sure it contains no spaces. It can be alpha and/or numeric. If you receive an error that says the
ID is already in use, try adding today's date numbers to the end of the ID like this: SGuerra19. This will
eliminate the possibility of receiving that "ID is in use" error.
Q13: I took your DEMO tests on your website. How can I view my results?
Our self-reporting demo creates a pop-up window to show an example of the results report. If you did not
see this window, check your browser settings. Enable pop-ups and then go back and take another test.
Note: The test result you see is only a sample - it does not reflect your actual score on the demo test.
Q1: I am creating a new candidate but it tells me the Candidate ID is already
in use? How can that be?
Before you try to re-enter the candidate using a new ID, click on 'Set-up Evaluations.' Pull down the
list of candidates and look for the candidate. If you find the ID then select it and move on to your
selection of evaluations. This is a known issue and we're working hard to eradicate it. If you do
NOT see the candidate's name then go back to the Create Candidate page and try again.
Q2: I emailed an invitation to my candidate but they never received it.
Many ISPs will block an e-mail which contains a live link-so it never reaches the intended
recipient. Some SPAM blockers will block the e-mail when the security is set to maximum. Have
your candidate check their SPAM and Junk mail folders. If the e-mail is not there, give them your
Account ID, the User ID you created for them, and the Password you assigned. Give them the URL:
http://www.prevalonline.com/login . This will allow them to go in and test.
Q3: My candidate can't test. They are getting a blue screen and nothing else.
They just need to install the Java Runtime Environment plug-in. It's available for free at www.java.com.
Once they have installed Java and restarted their browser they can re-enter the test center. You may need
to re-set the test they tried to take. Even though they could not see the test we could see them, and so
the test may have written a null results report and left their list of evaluations to take.
Q4: I did not receive an e-mail notification that my candidate was done with
their tests. I'm sure I set the account up to notify me, what happened?
There are two places you need to check: First, click the 'General' link under Preferences in your
Administration Menu. Make sure that 'e-mail report to administrator' is set to either 'Full Results'
or 'Overall Summary' and then make sure your complete email address is typed into the
'Administrator e-mail Addresses' field. Click 'Update' to save your changes.
Second, if you use Candidate Groups, those preferences override the general preferences. Click on
'Groups' under Candidates in the Administration Menu, then select your Candidate Group from the
pull-down menu. Select 'Reporting Options for this Group' from the Settings pull-down menu. Make
sure that 'e-mail report to administrator' is set to either 'Full Results' or 'Overall Summary' and
then make sure your complete email address is typed into the 'Administrator e-mail Addresses'
field. Click 'Update' to save your changes.
Q5: I don't really need to see every single question on the test when I
review the test results. How can I change that?
Using the information from Question 4, above, make sure your 'e-mail report to Administrator' is
set to 'Overall Summary,' not Full Report.' Check both General Preferences and Candidate
Groups, as Candidate Groups will override the General Preferences. Click the 'Update' button
when you're done to save your changes.
Q6: When I print out the results report the blue graph bars are empty,
making it difficult to read. What am I doing wrong?
You aren't doing anything wrong. We try to accommodate all possible printing situations, but
sometimes printers don't like to cooperate with us. You can check that your printer drivers are up
to date. Check that background printing is turned off. Otherwise if you have an IT contact who is a
network or local printer expert they may have a solution on hand.
Q7: A candidate took the tests several times. I thought they could only
take them once, how can I fix this?
There are a few places to check. First, click on 'General' under preferences. Make sure that the
box that says 'Allow New Candidates to Choose Evaluations' is NOT selected. If you have to deselect,
be sure to hit the 'Update' button to save your changes.
Second, if you use Candidate Groups check your Settings for 'Permissions for this Group.' Make
sure the first permission 'Choose Evaluations' is NOT selected. If necessary, click 'Update' to save
your changes.
Lastly, if you did not have to make changes in either of these places click on 'EDIT' under
Candidates. Select the Candidate's name and check their individual permissions to see if 'Choose
Evaluations' was turned on; de-select it and click 'Update' to prevent them from taking more tests.
Q8: I know my candidate took the tests but when I look at the results
report it says "no records." Where did the results go?
If you set-up a candidate to test and they sat down at the same computer you used, the results
may be under YOUR name in the results database. To prevent this from happening in the future,
always make sure you click the 'LOGOUT' link above the Administration Menu when you're done
setting a candidate up to test.
If you e-mailed an invitation to the candidate and you see no results, try logging into your account
with the User ID and Password you sent to the Candidate. Click 'I agree' and the next page would
show evaluations waiting to be taken or 'Testing Session Complete.' If you see the former, the
Candidate has NOT taken the tests. If you see the later, call or e-mail us for further information
and troubleshooting.
Q9: I set the test limit on MS Word 2002 to 20 minutes. The results report
said this candidate took 53 minutes on the test. How did that happen?
This will happen if you use Candidate Groups. The Candidate Groups override any of the General or
Evaluation Permissions set. Click on the 'Groups' link under Candidates. Select your Candidate
Group. Select 'Runtime Options for this Group' and check the 'Enable Time Limits' box. Click
'Update' to save your changes.
Q10: We have our candidates take seven tests. Is there a way to shorten
some of the tests?
Yes, in your Administration Menu click 'Customize' under Evaluations. Here you can select any title
you wish to change. You can de-select individual questions or entire levels (Basic, Intermediate, or
Advanced.) Once you are happy with the test length just click 'Save As' and name the new, custom
test. It will now appear in the Set-up Evaluations page in the Pre-valuate bucket.
Q11: How can I review what the tests cover, what types of questions are asked,
and what skills those questions test for?
Click on 'Customize' under Evaluations in your Administration Menu and select the test title you
wish to review. You will see a color coded page with questions broken down by skill level (Basic,
Intermediate, and Advanced). You will see a vertical bar of color that shows you the knowledge
category the questions cover. You can read the question text and click the 'info' link to view the
answers and any images associated with that question.
Q12: I have a candidate who is having a lot of trouble trying to take your
tests from their home computer. I've helped them the best I can, I don't know what's wrong. What can I do?
There is no need for you both to get frustrated! Feel free to give your candidate our 800 number
and tell them to ask for Technical Support. There is also a FAQ just for candidates on our
corporate site. In addition, there is a Support link at the bottom of each page on Pre-valuate
Online and they can click that link at any time to send us an e-mail with questions. We'll help
troubleshoot and get them going in the right direction.
